about
Megadon takes a tour of jazz history in the new video for “Play My Jazz”.
Inspired by Quasimoto’s debut album The Unseen (2000), the Montreal, Canada native created the upbeat sound for “Play My Jazz” more than 10 years ago. Megadon borrowed the first note of “Boom Music” and added random voice samples to make the record.
Infusing all types of jazz references into the lyrics, Megadon shows appreciation for jazz greats like Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Cannonball
Adderley, and so many others.
lyrics
Lyrics:
I must be the lonliest monk when it comes to the funk
Bass lines like mingus puts the junk in her trunk
It’s the jazz, like Fats Waller, Charlie Parker
Gene krupa Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter
We make it Work man Like Reggie, In Paul’s Chambers
In the Hampton’s with Lionel listening to Miles Davis
You too young like Lester, in Corea you’re a Chick
Farmer’s Pepper my art so it’s Taylored to fit
Stan Getz it, Sun Ra flows through the arteries
it’s something else like Cannonball Adderley
Buddy I’m Rich, no Byas I’m the Don
A hard Bop with giant steps, Tommy Flannigan
Rashan Roland Kirk, just one of the perks
You might be shorter than Wayne but the girls still flirt
It’s bout them Grant Green's, in these idle moments
I’m a new direction, Jack DeJohnette… it’s the jazzz
There’s a shape of things to come George Benson no Jetson
John Coltrane your dimension, ascension
I’m Donald son like Lou walking a dog name blue
under current ground shit like Kenny Drew
Don’t procrastinate search for new land with Lee Morgan
We’re at the golden circle, free Jazz, Onette Coleman
Since the change of the century, the blackstone legacy
No Rosewood, Shaw’s little red fantasy
It’s that new eastern sound,
like Yusef Lateef, or Ray Brown
Married to the game, Ella fitz gerald
I may burn more green, you can call the blunt Harold
Black codes from the underground
In cerebral caverns where they study in brown
Illumination occurs, see we putting it together
Making music with feeling like the soul Ben Webster
